Nufiniq is a response to the normative influence of the Latin script in a divided world. It emerges from a hopeful vision of the future, in which Arab-Dutch culture is no longer seen as a deviation, but as an enrichment of society. Nufiniq proposes a new script as an expression of merged cultures, a dynamic and connective alphabet, whose letters follow Arabic typographic principles and adapt to their context – just as culture does.

Throughout the centuries, the West has maintained a dominant position in the field of typography, from Gutenberg’s printing press to today’s digital standards. Nufiniq critiques this position by incorporating various elements from Arabic script, such as fluid baseline connections.

In a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected, typography is no longer a neutral tool for communication. It reflects our shared history and cultural identity. Rethinking typographic norms and connecting different cultures through type design has not only aesthetic value, but also social value.

Typography is more than form; it is a cultural and social statement. A visual language for who we are, and who we have the potential to become.
